Must Have Skills :
Hands-on experience with ServiceNow ITOM modules (especially Service Mapping)
- Proven ability to configure and maintain Service Mapping, including top-down (pattern-based) and tag-based discovery.
- Strong understanding of CMDB and CSDM (Common Service Data Model)
- In-depth knowledge of CMDB structure, class hierarchy, and how services relate in CSDM-compliant models.
- Proficiency with Discovery and MID Server architecture
- Able to deploy and troubleshoot MID Servers, configure credentials, and use probes/sensors effectively.
- Expertise in designing and building patterns
- Experience creating custom patterns for application/service discovery and troubleshooting mapping failures.
- Networking and infrastructure knowledge
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP, ports, protocols, cloud vs. on-prem environments, and application infrastructure.
Good to Have Skills :
ServiceNow Certifications (e.g., CIS-ITOM, CSA)
- Validates ServiceNow expertise and adherence to best practices.
- Experience with Event Management and AIOps integration
- Knowledge of integrating Service Mapping with alerts, events, and monitoring tools.
- Scripting and troubleshooting (JavaScript, Regex, Shell, PowerShell)
- For custom patterns, probes, and integration with enterprise systems.
- Cloud service discovery
- Understanding of AWS, Azure, or GCP cloud discovery and mapping hybrid environments.
- Performance tuning and CMDB health monitoring
- Ability to optimize discovery schedules, manage orphaned CIs, and improve CMDB completeness and accuracy.
Roles and Responsibilities :
Design, implement, and maintain Service Mapping solutions within the ServiceNow platform to provide visibility into business-critical services.
- Configure and manage MID Servers and ensure proper connectivity for discovery and mapping across environments (on-premise, cloud, hybrid).
- Develop and maintain accurate CMDB data models aligned with ServiceNow’s Common Service Data Model (CSDM).
- Customize and troubleshoot discovery patterns and probes to support unique or complex enterprise applications.
- Collaborate with infrastructure and application teams to identify service dependencies and map them accurately.
- Ensure data quality, completeness, and reliability of service maps and the CMDB by implementing health dashboards and audits.
- Integrate Service Mapping with Event Management, Incident, and Change Management to improve operational workflows and automation.
- Provide knowledge transfer and training to platform teams and stakeholders to ensure maintainability and platform scalability.
