We are looking for an experienced ServiceNow Software Development Lead to join our internal service center group under the Digital Modernization Sector. This role will focus on supporting self-hosted ServiceNow implementations and best practices for our Federal Government clients. Responsibilities also include acting as a ServiceNow subject matter expert for proposals and fostering growth opportunities within our Practice Area. This is a unique opportunity for a self-starter with proven ServiceNow experience to lead a team in addressing the expanding needs of our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- This is a hands-on position where you'll be part of a collaborative team at our Lorton, VA facility. You'll engage in ServiceNow development work while taking on management and Solutions Architect responsibilities.
- Work onsite full-time unless otherwise directed by leadership.
- Support primarily Monday to Friday, 8 hours a day, with availability for mission-critical deadlines outside regular hours in a 24/7 environment.
- Possess in-depth knowledge of IT concepts, best practices, and procedures, particularly within a DoD context and about ServiceNow.
- Provide technical direction and oversight to the ServiceNow development team, including establishing coding standards and conducting code reviews while designing solutions tailored to business needs.
- Act as the lead developer for complex features and integrations, which involves coding, testing, debugging, and mentoring team members of varying experience levels.
- Offer technical guidance on ServiceNow IT Service Management (ITSM) and IT Asset Management (ITAM), concentrating on Software and Hardware Asset Management best practices.
- Oversee the configuration and maintenance of Discovery to enhance visibility into infrastructure and employ Service Mapping for a visual representation of business services.
- Experience with UI Actions, UI Policies, Business Rules, Client Scripts, Script Includes, and various other scripting components is essential.
- Manage the technical aspects of a self-hosted ServiceNow instance, including upgrades and performance optimization.
- Resolve routine issues proactively with established solutions while also addressing unplanned problems as they arise.
- Collaborate closely with cloud infrastructure and engineering teams to optimize the self-hosted environment.
- Engage with stakeholders, including the Enterprise Help Desk, business analysts, and project managers, to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Contribute to the editing of work documents like SOPs and training materials related to ServiceNow functionality.
- Adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks effectively, demonstrating discretion where necessary.
- Create business process maps using standardized methodologies and support the development of systems engineering documents.
- Work independently and cooperatively within the team, keeping leadership updated on project progress and unexpected issues.
- Develop additional skill sets while utilizing your existing expertise.
- Expertise in APIs and ServiceNow implementations is required.
- Demonstrate strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills, effectively addressing complex technical concepts across both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Build and maintain constructive relationships with employees, customers, and stakeholders.
- Fulfill all managerial responsibilities of this position, which may extend beyond regular working hours.
The ideal candidate will quickly adapt to client needs and assist in implementing the ServiceNow roadmap. You will collaborate with a dynamic workforce and communicate effectively to gather and synthesize requirements, ensuring successful project delivery.
Clearance Requirements:
- Active Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI) clearance or the ability to obtain it before starting.
- Willingness to undergo an investigation for eligibility after starting the position.
Required Experience, Skills, and Education:
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree with at least 6 years of experience.
- Minimum of 4 years in supervisory or project leadership roles.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Active CompTIA Security+ certification or ability to obtain it before starting.
- Experience with IT security compliance in classified environments.
- A minimum of 6 years of hands-on ServiceNow development experience.
- Proven ability to manage a self-hosted ServiceNow instance, with knowledge of infrastructure components, especially:
- Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), including administration, security, and patching.
- Expertise in MariaDB for administration and performance tuning, relevant for ServiceNow’s internal cloud infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure will be advantageous, as the self-hosted instance will utilize Azure infrastructure.
- Exceptional customer service, communication, organizational, and technical skills, with an ability to convey complex concepts clearly.
- Experience with ServiceNow ITOM Visibility, configuring Discovery, and maintaining Service Mapping.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts and protocols, and ability to troubleshoot connectivity issues.
Preferred Experience, Skills, and Education:
- Certifications like ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD) or Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS) are a plus.
- Proficiency in ITIL concepts as applied within ServiceNow.
- Prior experience in a managerial or technical capacity, including mentoring developers and leading teams.
- In-depth knowledge of the Common Service Data Model (CSDM) and maintaining the Configuration Management Database (CMDB).
- Familiarity with ServiceNow ITAM modules, focusing on Software and Hardware Asset Management.
- Experience with Air Force Life Cycle Management Center programs or other DoD initiatives.
- Other relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, ITIL, ServiceNow-related, Microsoft Azure) are beneficial.
