The ServiceNow Developer – Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM) is a technical role responsible for the design, development, configuration, and continuous enhancement of the ServiceNow Now Platform®, with primary focus on Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM) modules, including Demand Management, Project & Portfolio Management (PPM), Resource Management, Financial Management, and related workspaces and dashboards.
The role is responsible for delivering secure, scalable, maintainable, and upgrade-ready solutions by following ServiceNow best practices, emphasizing out-of-the-box capabilities, configuration over customization, and custom development only when necessary. The position works closely with Product Owners, Platform Owners, Platform Architects, process owners, and managed service partners to deliver business value and operational excellence.
This position requires hands-on ServiceNow development across DEV, TEST, and PROD environments, including client-side and server-side scripting, Flow Designer, UI Builder/Service Portal development, data modeling, security and ACL configuration, integrations, and Automated Test Framework (ATF) implementation. The role also supports release management, regression testing, platform upgrades, and patching activities to ensure platform stability and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Delivery Management (TDM)
Act as the technical owner and subject matter expert (SME) for assigned ServiceNow SPM solutions.Translate business requirements into scalable technical designs aligned with a 12–18 month roadmap.Enforce development standards, naming conventions, governance controls, and documentation practices.Participate in backlog refinement, sprint planning, and Agile delivery activities.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Consulting
Collaborate with Product Owners and Process Owners to gather requirements and define user stories.Support UAT planning and execution activities.Prepare demos, status reports, and KPI dashboards.Provide end-user enablement, training, and knowledge transfer.Coordinate with managed service providers and external vendors when required.
ServiceNow Development & Enhancement
Configure and customize ServiceNow ITSM, CMDB, and SPM capabilities using:Business RulesClient ScriptsScript IncludesUI Policies and UI ActionsCatalog ItemsFlow Designer and WorkflowsDevelop scoped applications as needed.Design and maintain data models and relationships.Implement security using roles and ACLs.Build dashboards, reports, and analytics.Develop and support integrations using REST/SOAP APIs, IntegrationHub, Import Sets, Transform Maps, and Scheduled Jobs.Implement automated testing using ATF and support CI/CD or controlled deployments through update sets and source control. Service Operations & Platform Support
Support ITIL Service Operation processes, including Event, Incident, Problem, Access, Request Fulfillment, Operations, and Documentation management.Perform daily operational activities to ensure platform availability and service functionality.Manage platform upgrades and application patching to maintain supported and secure environments.Provide emergency and on-call support as required.
Skills And Experience
6–8 years of experience in ServiceNow development and administrationStrong hands-on experience with ServiceNow scripting and configurationExperience with ServiceNow SPM modules, including: Demand Management, Project & Portfolio Management (PPM), Resource Management, Financial ManagementExperience implementing SPM solutions within enterprise or peer-sized organizationsExperience with Agile Development module in SPMHands-on experience with: Flow Designer, UI Builder, Service Portal, Scoped ApplicationsExperience developing and supporting integrations using REST/SOAP APIs and IntegrationHubExperience implementing security using ACLs and role-based access controlsExperience building dashboards and reporting solutionsKnowledge of ATF, release management, platform upgrades, and regression testingExperience working in Agile/Scrum environmentsUnderstanding of ITIL Service Operations processesAbility to learn and adapt to Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM) capabilities and enhancements
